TOPIC: Some suggestions
#25
Some suggestions 8 Months, 1 Week ago
After using Scarab Darkroom for a few days these are my suggestions:

  • Some way to reset rotation back to exactly 0 degrees ( Or is there a way to do it already? )

  • Some way to move the sliders with more precison (for example by scrollwheel when the cursor is above a slider, or the adobe lightroom way (click with scrollwheel on a slider and then scroll, this allows scrollwheel to perform other tasks also)).
The current precison is just too coarse sometimes (white balance jumps in huge steps, and fine adjustment is impossible).

  • Use a folder in the users directory for "Picture Data" not the installation folder, because when run without administrative privileges the "Program files" folder is not writeable, causing the previews not being saved and giving an ugly error on exit.

  • Scrollwheel should scroll the preview icons when over them. The little scrollbar on bottom is very easy to miss.

  • Neutral gray selector seems to use the value of one pixel under it, a better way would be to average a few surrounding pixels, thus not letting noise affect the selection.

  • Some keyboard controls would be nice - at least for toggling between 1:1 and fit view, copy and paste settings, toggling clipped colours view.

These are good suggestions.

Using more pixels for white balance sampling is something I was already planning to change.

"-Some way to reset rotation back to exactly 0 degrees ( Or is there a way to do it already? )"

-Yes, sort of. If you click on the 90 degrees rotation buttons, it will rotate to the nearest 90 degree multiple.

"Use a folder in the users directory for "Picture Data" not the installation folder, because when run without administrative privileges the "Program files" folder is not writeable, causing the previews not being saved and giving an ugly error on exit."

-That's a good point. I didn't run into the problem, as I'm always administrator on my machine.

The slider precision issue has also occurred to me, but I wasn't aware of the mouse wheel method in Lightroom. Sounds good, I'll implement it.

Thanks for the feedback!

Okay, I changed the pick white balance. It also had a bug: it was off by (8, 8) pixels. It's fixed now and will be in build 23.

Hi,

first of all: Congratulations for this programm. It really looks good.

I don't know what you're planning to include in upcoming releases, but things I'm missing most at the moment are:

- The "already mentioned use" of the scroll wheel
- Noise reduction
- Croping with fixed settings (like 3:2 or 4:3)

Not so important but nice to have:

- Batch development
- Saturation slider for the most important colors like: Blue, Green, Yellow, Red
- Distortion correction

By the way: Is there somekind of newsletter that informs about a new release?

Greetings
Richie

Hi!
Thanks!
The mouse wheel support is almost finished, so you can expect it soon.

"By the way: Is there somekind of newsletter that informs about a new release?"

- Not yet. But there is an rss feed on the Scarab Darkroom page.
If you are not using an rss reader, you can use some online services to get email notifications from them, eg.:
http://www.feedmyinbox.com/
The URL of the feed:
